The 45-year-old actor was sentenced to five years for culpable homicide not amounting to murder on Wednesday, for killing a homeless man in the 2002 hit-and-run case. He was found guilty of all charges, including driving while under the influence of alcohol and without a licence. Soon after the conviction, Khan escaped the jail term after the Bombay HC granted him interim bail for two days

The constable Ravinder Patil, who was then attached to Khan’s security team, had said in his statement to police that the actor had lost control of the car while driving at over 90kmph.

Salman’s Toyota Land Cruiser rammed into a bakery in Bandra west, on September 28, 2002, killing one pavement dweller and injuring four others.
